What we collect

The Rates Guy is an editorial publication. We do not run a quote form on this site, do not collect driver-license information, and do not collect insurance-policy data. We collect: standard server log data (IP address, user agent, referring URL), email addresses when readers send corrections or tips, and analytics events (pageviews, scroll depth, outbound link clicks) via privacy-aware tools.

How we use it

Server logs run abuse and rate-limiting controls. Email addresses are used to respond to the reader who sent the email. Analytics data is used in aggregate to understand which stories readers engage with and which carriers and cities to prioritize coverage for next. We do not build behavioral profiles of individual readers.

Outbound referrals

When a reader clicks an outbound link to a partner site (for example, a comparison platform like QuoteMoto), that partner may set its own cookies and apply its own privacy policy. The Rates Guy may earn a referral fee from these partners; the fee does not change the reader's rate and is disclosed in the About page.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal information. We do not share email addresses or analytics data with third-party advertisers for their own marketing. We do not run programmatic ad auctions on this site. The publication runs on referral fees, not data sales.

Your California privacy rights

Under California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information we hold about them, request deletion of that information, and opt out of any sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information, so the opt-out is moot, but the right exists). Requests go to editor@theratesguy.com.

Data security

Connections to this site use HTTPS. Stored email correspondence is kept in standard business email systems with industry-standard access controls. No transmission method over the internet is perfectly secure; The Rates Guy is not a target-rich environment because the publication does not store policy or financial data.
